Privacy policy.

Tape is a screen recording, transcription, and AI-summary product built by anata inc. (Wilmington, DE — contact david@anatainc.com). This page explains what data the Tape web app at tape.anatainc.com and the Tape Chrome extension collect, why, and what we do with it.

What we collect

• Account info — email address you sign in with; optional display name; optional avatar image you upload.
• Recordings you make — screen video, optional camera video, optional microphone audio. Recordings are uploaded to our cloud storage (Supabase Storage, US region) and are private to your workspace by default. You explicitly opt in to sharing each one.
• AI processing inputs — for tapes you record, the audio is sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription and the resulting transcript is sent to Anthropic Claude for summarization. Both providers contractually agree not to train on API inputs.
• Usage metrics — counts of tapes recorded, AI minutes consumed, and storage used per workspace, for billing and quota enforcement.
• Workspace audit log — Business-plan workspaces store a record of sensitive actions (invites sent/revoked, members added/removed, share links created, plan changes). Visible only to workspace owners and admins.

What we don't collect

• We do not sell user data to third parties. Ever.
• We do not place advertising trackers, fingerprinting beacons, or session-replay scripts on tape.anatainc.com.
• The Chrome extension does not read the content of pages you visit. It only injects a recording dock when you press the toolbar icon or hotkey, and only captures the screen frame you explicitly authorize via the Chrome screen-share picker.
• The extension does not capture browsing history, form input, passwords, cookies, or any other on-page data.

How we use it

• Provide the product — store recordings, generate transcripts/summaries, render share links, deliver weekly digest emails.
• Bill for paid tiers — via Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and the workspace's subscription state. We do not store card numbers or CVCs.
• Notify you of activity — in-app notifications and the optional weekly digest email. You can opt out of the digest in Settings → Notifications.
• Operate the service securely — server logs (IP, request path, status code) retained 30 days for abuse-prevention and debugging only.

Who we share with

Tape uses these processors. Each is bound by a Data Processing Addendum (DPA) limiting use of your data to providing service to you.

• Supabase — primary database, auth, file storage (US region).
• OpenAI — Whisper API for transcription. Inputs not used for training.
• Anthropic — Claude API for summarization. Inputs not used for training.
• Render — application hosting.
• Resend — transactional email (magic links, invites, digest).
• Stripe — payment processing for paid tiers.

We share with law enforcement only when legally compelled by a valid order, and notify the affected user when not prohibited by law.

Retention

• Free tier recordings auto-delete after 30 days.
• Starter tier recordings auto-delete after 1 year.
• Team and Business tier recordings are retained until you delete them.
• You can delete any recording at any time from the Tape app. Deletion is irreversible.
• If you delete your account, all your workspaces, recordings, and personal data are permanently removed within 30 days.

Security

• All traffic to tape.anatainc.com uses HTTPS with HSTS.
• Recordings in Supabase Storage are accessed via short-lived signed URLs (24h).
• API access is gated by JWT (Supabase Auth, ES256 via JWKS).
• API keys to upstream services (OpenAI, Anthropic, Resend, Stripe) live only on our server; the browser never sees them.
• Workspace data access is enforced by Postgres row-level security in addition to server-side checks.

Your rights

You can request a copy of your data, correction of inaccuracies, or deletion of your account at any time by emailing david@anatainc.com. We respond within 30 days. If you're in California (CCPA/CPRA) or the EU/UK (GDPR), the same rights apply under those laws specifically.

Children

Tape is for business use and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

Material changes will be announced at least 14 days in advance via email to account owners and by banner notice in the Tape app. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
